Animal Characters - Development

I developed my two characters, this is the expression sheet for them. I decided that the falcon would become the 'Delboy' character and the fox would be 'Rodney'. So I used the expressions that applied to the characters traits and personalities.

Above are the chosen poses for each character and the turnarounds ready for the macquette building.

Animal Characters - Research

After I decided that my heart wasn't in animating anymore, I decided to do model-making. Which is the best decision I ever made! For my new brief, I had to make two animal character macquettes. But first, I had to create two characters, one winged and one four-legged. They had to have a story and relationship with one another.

I went to Perriswood which is a falconry in Swansea to look at how the birds fly and what they look like up close. The people who owned the farm were lovely and they brought out the birds for me to sketch up-close. For the four-legged animal I went to Cardiff Museum to sketch the animals that they had there. In the end I chose to do a Peregrine Falcon as my winged character and an Urban Fox for my four-legged character. I also looked at some live-action characters that I would base my characters traits and personalities on - so I chose Delboy & Rodney from Only Fools And Horses.

Making A Bird Armature

Our next project was to pick a bird and a four-legged animal to animate. I started to build a bird armature before I decided to swap to model making. So here are some of the photos that I took during the making of the armature...
